ABOUT THE BCB

The British Championship Basketball (BCB) is a newly-formed second-tier professional men’s basketball league in Great Britain, officially launched in 2025 by the British Basketball Federation (BBF) in partnership with the home country associations Basketball England, Basketball Scotland and Basketball Wales.

Initially comprised of 14 clubs — the 13 men’s clubs that competed in England’s NBL Division One last season plus one promoted team — the league will also be open to Scottish and Welsh clubs as part of its ambition to become a truly national British competition.

The formation of BCB aims to raise standards, develop domestic talent, and provide a clear pathway for British-qualified players. Notably, from the 2026–27 season the league plans to limit roster spots for foreign players (to just three) and require nine British-qualified players on match-day benches.

By placing clubs at the centre of governance and being club-owned, the BCB is designed to promote sustainability, better commercial frameworks and stronger community links — a shift from the more top-down structures previously seen.
